Because there are many ways to homeschool a child, this board will include those who use the traditional method of homeschooling, 'unschooling', and cyber schooling. October 18th we were privileged to have Andrew Cuddy, author of The Special Education Battlefield visit STARFISH. Although Andrew first began his career practicing primarily criminal law, he soon came to realize that many of the issues that caused young adults to be in front of the criminal court were issues that could have been addressed when they were still in school. From the insight he gained through his experiences, Andrew felt compelled to focus on Special Education law, almost exclusively. For the past 8 years he has been a phenomenal resource for parents, both in and out of the court room. His primary goal in writing “Battlefield” is to help parents develop the tools to obtain services for a special education student who is being denied appropriate services. His proactive and straight forward approach will leave parents empowered to find whatever means necessary to advocate for their child’s educational rights.
